This project, from Spring of 2020, was about how life as a college student changed after the coronavirus shutdown happened mid-semester. I was particularly proud of this project because I went beyond evaluating media and actually producing it on my own. I tried to make a hybrid between a journal entry and a creative essay, and I am happy with the results. Going back to re-read this half a year later, I still feel like the writing does remind me of how I felt in that time. While I definitely can read that I wasn't too excited about the ongoing quarantine, I am glad to see that I was still able to come out with a positive outlook in the end.

I feel like this project was among the most important ones that we have done in all three media classes. Especially with the upcoming election dominating both the traditional and social media spheres, it was very important to understand the news that we were seeing. Through this project, we evaluated how certain news stories fit the values of advertising, which had been defined by media theorists. I felt like this was an important example of how theory can be applied to real-world analysis, both with media and with any other field. This project allowed me to have a better understanding of the biases that news organizations have when they are creating the news that we read.

This is a reflection essay on my experience in the Media, Self & Society Scholars Program, and how it has affected my college experience so far. I consider how this program has affected my viewpoint, my present, and my future, and I include a few pictures from along the way.
